BUSD is dedicated to meeting the needs of the whole child. Through a full-time Outreach Liaison at the district and service provider teams at our district resource center, we provide a continuum of services and supports for students, families, and staff. This includes:

  • Case Management for basic need resources such as food, clothing, shoes, and housing referrals
  • Mental Health and Counseling Services
  • Physical Health Services
  • Crisis Intervention for individuals in need of the most intensive support
  • Homeless Services (McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Act) for students and families experiencing homelessness or are in transition

The Outreach Liaison is the designated district liaison for homeless youth attending Barstow Unified School District.

All students considered homeless or in transition, includes students who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence, are afforded certain rights under the law:

  • Immediate enrollment, even if family lacks records normally required for enrollment
  • Placement in student’s school of origin, unless it is against family’s wishes
  • Transportation to and from student’s school of origin
  • Free school meals

Please call the Outreach Liaison for assistance with this process at 760-255-6026.
